It felt good to be out on the kickball fields again after so many months off. (Who am I kidding, it's been over a year since I've gone a whole month without playing kickball in one form or another.) Opening Day has a certain exictment in the air that was clear present at the fields on Sunday. Meeting new people, sizeing up your future opponents, laughing at the team that got stuck with the Pink shirts ("It's not Pink, It's Azalea"). You never know what to expect on Opening Day, who's going to be the new team to shock the division, which veteran squad that made the off season moves to take home the division championship, who's just here for the flip cup?
In my kickball career, I have rarely found the answers to these questions were truely answered on Opening Day. I mean what there were like 4 games on Sunday where the margin of victory was 5 runs. It was several of those teams first games of kickball ever, it's too early to tell if it was opening day jitters or that a team care more about fun than winning the game. As for the veteran teams that lost on Sunday, well their loses don't signify a bad season to come for Balls Deep or the Uniballs. Either team has the potential to go the rest of the season without a lose.
Stay tuned folks, cause this season's just getting started.
