Confetti & champagne:
1st United CT Kickers - This is a new team to the division but, they’re no rookies. They seem to be made up of Hartford league all-stars coming to invade New Haven. Through the pre-season they showed up in great numbers and played with great direction; wouldn’t surprise me at all to see this team take it all the way.
Close but no cigar:
Free Ballers - The Free Ballers come back with their entire team intact. These runner-ups from last year are looking to hoist the cup and should come very close. Led by their all-pro outfielder/roamer, Captain Michael Colon, who if you falls asleep in the field will burn you for 1 or 2 extra bases, and their slick throwing pitcher, Jose Canarte, this team should be well on their way to the championship game to settle some unfinished business.
Balls Deep - Almost as close as the Freeballers, Balls Deep has been in the top 4 of teams every year. Hoping this would be the year they break through; they have made some roster changes to ensure a championship. Out of all the new rookies this year, this team may have the best of the best of them.
“I don’t like surprises!”
Schweddy Balls - Formerly the Ginger Balls, they may have what it takes this year to win. After 2 solid seasons, 3rd time may be a charm for Captain Steve and his troops.
Others teams in the league
Uniballs: The Uniballs are New Haven Kickball royalty. Almost always in the final game, no matter what season it is, you can never really count them out. However, after a couple of key losses of great players, this team has had to reload with new talent. Let’s see if that luster still remains.
Kickelbacks: One of the new teams this year, they are a bit unconventional. A team that is girl heavy (a lot of girls), they could potentially open some eyes this year; one way or another
Inglorious Ballstards: This almost offensive team name group is a new team with a lot of new players as well but brings in 6 veterans. This team could be boom or bust for the season
Wrecking Balls: A returning team from last year, captainship has been handed down to Mr. Moran who was apart of the rebuilding effort last year. Let’s see what this team can do under the new regime
Balls to the Wall: A new team that most likely has talked the biggest game some far. Weather it was pre-season games, the pub crawl, the meet & greet, or on the flip-cup table, they expect to win on the field and on the table. We’ll just see about that!
The Closers: Not going to lie to you, not much is known about this golden new team. They could be a team full of soccer players ready to pounce on new pray. I tell you what though; it’s always the quiet ones that get you. So, I’ll leave them alone for now.
Blue Mooners: A new team as well with an obvious name of who they endorse has probably the most vocal, spunky Captain in the league. Even though they’re rookies, I wouldn’t tried to push them around
Balls of Fury: Another new team that was overly eager to sign up as soon as registration opened. Rumor has it that they're fresh off a dodge ball tournament and were escorted out because they threw the ball so hard; Male & Female. They seem like they have potential with a "blue chipper", Jenny, in the outfield and If the rest of this athletic team is a good as this rookie, we may have our champion right here.
