Captains Corner

Free Ballers
Another great first inning set the stage for another win for the Free Ballers. With 10 runs in the first inning, the rest of the game was played on cruise control. A defensively sound game was played all around. George E was our MVP with a couple of good snags, a couple tosses out at first on bunts and a couple of good boots. Co-MVP goes to Lisa who held 2B down. She instilled fear in our opponent's making them think twice about kicking anything to her as she saw no action during the game.
The flip cup match came down to the last match to determine the winner. We won 5-4.
Free Ballers will be representing heavy at the mid-season party. We are looking forward to it!!!!

Wrecking Balls
Another week, another loss. We decided after a rough loss last week that some changes needed to be made, most of which consisted with us deciding to have some “power water” during the game. Sadly we didn't get the memo that Balls of Fury literally tail gated before hand, to the extent they literally carried a table full of food to the field; An obvious sign that we couldn't win the pre-game partying.
As for the game, our first inning was where the game was won, with Balls of Fury hitting what seemed like 9 home runs (give or take). We attempted a rally in the 4th inning but simply couldn't come back. The MVP of the game was the DJ for the charity walk, play some Michael Jackson to get the players pumped was exactly what the doctor order. The LVP (Least Valuable Player) was Griswolds cleats, as they attempted to take them out when met with a basketball court. On the Brightside, We did regain some pride on the flip cup table sweeping 5-0 (10-0 in total), the perfect practice for the Mid Season party. Till then, GreenShoes out!

Blue Mooners
Blue Mooners may not have brought home the W, but they sure as hell didn’t lose. The smiles never left the Mooners faces as this intense game kept brewing, and overall, I would have to say it was the cleanest game played so far this year. While Mooners could have pulled through if they hadn’t made a few bone head mistakes; those mistakes were CLEARLY out numbered by the many great plays. Rachel’s side and dead on catches (proving her birthday skills), Hannah’s finger-tip catch, Brian’s run and catch, Tom’s low catch, Billy and Kim’s double play; I would say the Blue Mooners have a lot to be proud of…and of course the fact that 1UCK refused to play them in flip-cup…what, were they afraid? Well be afraid…the league isn’t over yet…we may get one more chance against those 1UCK’s.

Kickelback
It was the perfect day for kickball! Kickelback was up against their rivals the Inglorious Ballstards and sure put up a good fight. It was a close game the whole way through. Danielle was named MVP, scoring Kickelback's only run and leaving with sliding scars to prove it. The team continues to be very good looking and generally interesting.

The Closers
It's a tough job, but someone's got to do it. I mean, all you others out there talking smack about how The Closers are win-less, just remember -- without us, you'd have one less win. Without us, YOU might find yourself in the basement. So really, you need us. Anyway... Sunday's gorgeous weather brought out 13 Closers (4 more than last week!), although one was on the DL. Despite not having our regular first baseman, we managed to play 4 solid innings... just the first inning wrecked us, as we allowed TEN runs to cross the plate. Despite the 14 - 2 loss, we had some solid play. Kevin, Scott, Cristina, and Micaela in particular really brought their A game and made fantastic contributions. Then it was on to Liffey's, where we opened up a 4 - 3 lead, only to lose in 5 - 4. Despite the lost, we re-prioritized and decided to focus our efforts on improving our flip cup game. We're determined to get a win in the books next week, whether on the field or at the table.

Balls of Fury
Balls of Fury faced the high-scoring Wrecking Balls in Week 4 of the season. The Fury was feeling confident and relaxed after their 2+ hour pre-game gathering, which consisted of food, beverages, a little kickball strategizing, and fun times. The Fury got off to a fast start with 5 runs in the 1st inning. Big Marc "Paradise City" Paradis made his pitching debut and brought his 'A' game from the start. Wrecking Crew cut the lead to a couple of runs late, but the Fury was able to hold them off for the victory. Both teams fought hard throughout and gave max effort. Balls of Fury had the usual energetic sideline, led by Rocco and the "Little Ones" cheerleading crew, which consists of the children of some of the team members. Co-MVP this week to Paradise City for his solid pitching performance, and to the Outfield for terrific defense. The Fury is now in the mix at 2-2 and coming together more and more as each week passes. Watch out CT Ivy! The Fury followed up the game by getting their butts whooped again on the flip cup table, falling to 1-3 overall, with the only victory coming by forfeit. Wrecking Balls were straight nasty on the flip cup table and swept the Fury, 5-0. The Fury is looking forward to the mid-season party, and representing well in the flip and pong challenges!

Schweddy Balls (Bonus)
So there we were, up to kick in the bottom of the fifth inning, not doing so well
against Balls to the Wall. We were down 6-0 & we had one out against us. In what will surely be hallowed as the most spectacular display of awesomeness on any kickball field past, present, or future, James approaches the plate...on crutches. The pitcher comes in with a wild pitch: ball one. The next pitch gets over the plate: WHACK! into shallow right center. Melanie comes around and scores and the kicker is SAFE at second! Are you kidding me?!?!? Then Nathan kicks an infield single, while James stays at 2nd...next up, Steve. Here's the pitch...boot!...and here comes James around the bases to SCORE !!!! And yes he's still using the crutches; bad ankle wrapped (an unfortunate accident while practicing our beloved sport); and did I mention he was wearing “Teva-esque” sandals? James: truly an MVP if there ever was one. He started a late rally which led to the team falling 7-5, but it was most definitely a moral victory. And the most spectacular display of awesomeness ever! (Did I mention that already?)

UniBalls (Bouns)
IT was a rough sunday for the Uniballs. We were missing many of our key players BUT we were happy to have enough to actually field a team! It took us two innings to get ourselves together and be able to hold BallsDeep, but then we matched them for the final 3 innings. we just couldnt make up for a 10 run deficit. And much to BallsDeep's dismay, we did NOT ever consider the mercy rule- hah! and we hope to see them in playoffs when we gots our whole team together. then we shall see. Standouts for the game were Bill, who essentially played the entire outfield, Jody who came in with some solid left field catches (after running a half marathon that day no less!) and Kathy, our best base runner of the day,.
Flip cup match was heated. BallsDeep got cocky when they were up 4-2, but Unis made a strong comeback to bring it to 4-4. But the last round was sooo close we did a one cup sudden death that ended too soon for the Unis. I blame me- I had to be the lame-o drinking water (professional reasons) and everyone knows you play flip cup much better with beer.
