WORD UP FROM THE CAPTAINS (The Captain's Corner)

Last Weeks Scores
Inglorious Ballstards- 3 Schweddy Balls- 3
1st tie of the season!!! Intense game but interesting that their pre-season scrimmage was a tie as well
The Closers- 1 Balls Deep- 12
This was expected, however; closers can possibly get their 1st win this coming week.
Balls to the Wall- 4 Wrecking Balls- 8
Wrecking balls get back on track with “W” after a 2 game skid. Next week; o gosh!
1st United Ct Kickers- 14 Uniballs- 1
Uni’s couldn’t even capitalize on how weak physically the pink pirates were after a long Saturday tourney.
Free Ballers- 5 Blue Mooners- 2
This game was a very good one to watch. A few slight errors in the 3rd, turned the game around
Balls of Fury- 12 Kickelback- 2
Kickelback get pounced on again, guess those weekly practices aren’t helping =)

Captains Corner

Schweddy Balls
On the pitcher's strip he stood, ball in hand, scowling. He had the look of one who had been partying the night before with reckless abandon. It was the bottom of the first; his team was already ahead 1-0. He made an inglorious presidential declaration as our first kicker, Melanie, stepped up to the plate,"I don't like you. I don't like ANY of you!" It was upon hearing this decree that we, the Schweddys, found our resolve: you ballstards will not win here today. And so it came to pass that they did not win...but neither did we. After six innings, and numerous glares from the teams that were playing after us, we were forced to settle (no pun intended) for a 3-3 tie. The game was not as bland as it sounds; we made them work to earn this draw. They even managed to keep our one-legged ball-kicking machine off base. We played with very sound defense and were complimented by the solid performance of this week's MVP, Karisa. She she was two for two on the day with 3 rki's and a very nice inning-ending catch. As was brought to my attention later in the day by same said pitcher, this was not the first time our two teams battled to a tie this season: we also achieved a stalemate in a preseason scrimmage game. So, if I may be so bold, I say to you that we shall meet again, Inglorious ones. Yes, we shall.

UniBalls
Despite a few missing players, the Uni's put in a good effort against the #1 ranked team. But apparently the combination of being blinded by their fluorescent pink shirts and freezing from the biting winds proved to put us again on the wrong side of a 14-1 game. We held them scoreless in 2 innings (and damn proud of it). I won’t mention the other 4 innings. MVP goes out to Bradley who began to master his new position and ran in our one run. As the Uniballs say, all you need is one. Flip cup was postponed to a future Sunday in deference to our mothers.

Balls Deep
Balls Deep is starting to feel like the Balls Deep of old. We started out Sunday with the minimum to play the game with our catcher coming in right before the start. We tried to be versatile with how we handled our balls this game. On offense we tried to mix up the tempo by switching back and forth from handling the balls lightly and using some speed to really getting forceful and going after the balls. On defense we tried to stay aggressive with the balls and even took a few off the face (sometimes with closed eyes). Everyone on the team contributed to this win. We're ready for the East vs. West showdown next week.

Inglorious Ballstards
So, after a long night of partying, we were scheduled to play the early game, Damn! Who does these schedules anyway? We were up against a personal rival of the inglorious captain. Schweddy and Mr. President go way back, so far that their name was Los Cojones. Yes, the rumor is true; he blatantly stated “I do not like you!” and the game was on from there. Already up a run the intensity heated up through the wind with a quick 1-2-3 out 1st inning. A tough game all the way through, and after the smoke cleared… Like their pre-season scrimmage, it ended in a tie. There were handshakes at the end of the game, but there were multiple glares of hate. In a tie, you can tell what team really won and what team really lost by their reactions after the game. Schweddy cheered as if they won the World Series, and the Ballstards felt ashamed and dirty. MVP’s of the game goes to Steve B. aka Chewy for completely shutting down his side of the outfield & RKI double; And Kyle aka Mr. Prez for, while on the mound, pitching shutout innings & snagging multiple balls out of the air.

Balls to the Wall
Different week, same old story. Pure domination. Well, maybe not “pure” domination like weeks past, but a W is a W. Not taking our opponents lightly, we got on the board quick, stunning them with our honed skills and ability to function after the debauchery that was the mid-season party. However, after the initial shock, those wreckers of the balls (ouch?) put their game faces on and quickly tied things up. The game went on like this until we slowly started to pull away with a 4-3 lead; however, the green machine would not go down without a noble fight and pushed the game to its limits. In the end, El Capitan de Las Pelotas a la Pared, closed things out by putting the final nail in the coffin for the Wrecking Balls and pushing our record to an astounding 5-0. Lies you say? FALSE. Balls to the Wall dominates the flip cup tables and plans on doing so the rest of the season. Oh yeah, we lost at kickball, but who really cares about those games anyways?

1st United CT Kickers
1UCK came into it's match up on Sunday a little worse for wear. A majority of the team had played 6 games on Saturday and with players having played up to 9 games in the past weeks. But 1UCK wasn't going to let that be an excuse. Things got off to a slow start, but it didn't take long for the 1UCKers to start putting runs on the board. It was a good day for them on both sides of the ball, but 1UCK has yet to pull off a 50-45 Unified MMA rules victory, thanks in part to last minute heroics by the Uniballers. MVP honors go to James "Guerin'teed" for his dominance on both sides of the ball.

Free Ballers (Bonus)
This win was all about the ladies. They made catch after catch and scored most of our runs. Kristina was definitely our MVP with an amazing catch of a line drive kick that saved 2 runs from scoring. She also scored a run herself. Both Jenny and Janiece also made great catches. We were down 0-2 until the 3rd when we scored 3. We tacked on another 2 in the 5th to win 5-2. Bringing team 30 packs seems to be fueling us to victories.
Scary moment though in the 4th when a member of our team tried to jump over a member of Blue Mooners, kneeing her in the head. Hopefully she is ok and feeling better.

Wrecking Balls (Bonus)
So after two weeks of frustration, the Wrecking Balls finally got back in the Win column. Although the elements conspired with what was a widespread case of being hung-over after the crazy events of the mid-season party, but we were not to be denied. Great overall defense and the team finding their kicking shoes lead to a couple of big innings and the eventual W.
MVP of the game will go to Tom "Papa" Fischetti with some stellar defense and a couple of key kicks. The LVP is without a doubt the weather, when did May decide it was the fall season again? Uncool. Sadly we weren't able to complete the clean sweep of Balls to the Wall as they pulled out a nail biter in flip cup 5-4. All in all, an amazing kickball party (to which most of the details probably can't be published), good game, and a happy holiday for all the moms out there. Till next week, keep those cups a flippin' and those balls a kickin'. Peace!
