Greetings once again fellow Kickballers,
Rain, mud, grass, and kickball! What a wonderful way to start the season! More than a few bodies went down in the slop, some even willingly. Now one might say that they were sliding to make sure they arrived safe at base, but I think most wanted to head home with proof that they played in some of the muddiest conditions ever seen at a kickball game...and it was fun! It would also appear that the conditions leveled the playing field for some, as some of the top ranked teams either fell or tied; let's call it underachieved. Or just maybe, some of the other teams were underestimated! Either way, it was clear to see that most everyone was having a great time and were excited to be kicking balls again. In case you hadn't noticed, humans are creatures quite adept at stating the clearly obvious, which is why we heard so many comments about the rain, about being wet while standing in the rain, about getting even more wet while running through mud puddles, and about the inability to get dry while standing under a wet tree. But what wasn't heard were complaints. Not one. Everyone seemed to genuinely enjoy the day. As it should be. We're not any pussy softball/baseball players who can't stand a little moisture; we're Kickballers! (Or Kickers-of-Balls, or Ball Kickers, or whatever.) And we know how to have fun! A little rain, some mud, a few balls, cleats (always helpful), and a plentiful amount of liquid refreshment filling our plastic cups - never straying from field regulations, of course - and it's game on! This coming week looks to have several good match-ups, so show up early to cheer on that lovely young thing you were trying to chat up at the bar (try not to slur next time) or to harass the team that beat you last week! Till next time, See you on the playing field,
the Ghost Man…….
P.S. - Before I continue any further, let me provide the following disclaimer to the league and any outsiders looking in that may wish to whine about something (you know who you are):All opinions, ideas, recollections, ramblings, statements, mutterings, and gaseous emanations contained in the GMOT portion of this blog are products of my own mind and my own completely twisted point of view and undeniably non-politically correct sense of humor. If you find it offensive, tough shit!!! Mission accomplished.
Cheerfully yours,
GMOT
“Oh Kickball, oh kickball, you soak us with the rain. Oh kickball, oh kickball, more of a reason to wear my cleats!”
What a great way to start kickball off; pouring rain! I don’t know about you, but I loved every minute of it! There were mud covered legs, bleeding blue shirts, umbrellas flying, score books killed; all in all, GREAT! But something else happened this week as well; teams losing that shouldn’t have, teams tying that should have rocked out with their socks out…was it the rain? I damn well hope so! Kickelback and Ballstards with shutout wins? No way. Busters losing? Blue tying Mafia and STL tying Fever? Seriously!? Top three teams, not so top right now…a little scary to say the least. At least Wrecking Balls and Balls to the Wall pulled through and did what they were supposed to. Way to stay consistent Christmas colors! Way, to stay, consistent.
What will happen in the upcoming weeks? Well, let’s just look at the teams and see:
Ball Busters are ‘supposedly’ the team to watch. I can’t say I agree with this, after watching them play. But as two time reigning fall champs, I say they deserve the reputation ‘team to watch.’ I also personally respect this team, because in the spring, my team is light blue. So already, this team is okay in my book.
Inglorious Ballstards need a come back this season…badly. They pretend that they were one of the best teams in the spring, but most of us know the truth. I mean, how can a team be top 4 and let another team beat them 18-2? Just doesn’t happen Kyle…it doesn’t happen. =] On a more serious note, this team has proved to house some of the greatest people in kickball.
Sweep the Leg gained their rep by joining up with the infamous ‘pink team’ from the spring season. I would say WATCH OUT for this team, but after this past weeks tie, and knowing that their captain is intimidated by pigtails and hugs…I would say that they aren’t that tough. I do hope to pummel this team into the ground with my cleats this season…just as a reminder to not givith and then takith away!
Uniballs had a rough season in the spring, but have come close to a championship in the past, and after scouting some of their players this past week, and a win against the Busters, it appears a championship may be in their future. Also from scouting, I firmly believe this team has some of the most attractive people in kickball on it…just saying.
Kickelback was the best team to play last season! This team knows the true meaning of kickball and fun. But now, they are winning! And practicing too! What is this world coming to?! I just hope that the fun remains…with the wins of course!
Balls Deep used to haunt my dreams; used to be my enemies; and used to be black. Now, they are pushovers, lovable, and yellow. I can’t wait to play this team! Watch out for their new pitcher, I heard he’s tough. HA HA!
Wrecking Balls, aka the ‘green team’. This team had the potential last season to go all the way. The only problem this season is the size of their green family; who plays? Who sits? And who drinks at the bar past the time that everyone else? The last one was just a silly question…the entire team does that! By far the most likely to be at the bar drinking everyone else under the table; this team! They also definitely proved this, this past week.
Balls to the Wall is the ‘spunky’ to my ‘vocal’. (Even though she showed up late…) This team knows the rules, and aren’t afraid to use them…cough…in field fly…cough….cheaters. Watch out for their first baseman; he so good I’m recruiting him to my team next season. =]
Hamden Mafia is made up of (from what I was told) the ‘soccer players’ of freeballers. Which they proved with ONE female player this past week. All I know about this team, is they are now the black team, which means I ultimately don’t like them. Grrr to you black team! Grr to you!
Saved by the Balls is starting off rough as a new team. Kickelback beat you? And you are ALSO having practices? Where is the fun in kickball going? Will this team take over the title? Emily, you used to be all business! I’m actually excited to see this team step it up a little. Please don’t “busch” me.
Fever is giving at least one team a fever! Get it? Ha ha. This is one of the only teams I know to do as much scouting as me! Watch out when a dark green shirt comes your way, they are strategizing how to kick-your-ass!
Teabaggers I don’t know too much about, but I do know that they need to step up their game! I hope to watch this game this week so I have more info on this gray team…
Balls of Fury have flown under the radar between this season and last…but I think if they can learn to communicate with each other, this could be a solid team. Their catcher may or may not get “catcher of the Season” this season…and he doesn’t even touch people!
Blue Ballers; I saved the best for last. This team shows some serious potential, once they get their flow. They believe in team building, beer pong, bleeding shirts, and spreading love through smiles and hugs. All I can say, is their captains are awesome, and when I grow up I want to be just like them.
Now that I have really rambled, I will sign off reminding you that I am ALWAYS watching. Yeah, I know that sounds creepy, but what can ya do. Bwahahaha.
