Greetings Kickers of Ball,
For those not in attendance (or those needing a bit of a reminder), last Saturday night a large contingent of party-hungry kickballers assembled in New Haven and proceeded to have themselves a mighty fine, alcohol- and hormone-fueled good time. Okay, so it may have gotten a bit warm, but that didn't seem to bother many after the second or third drink...and if people got too warm, the patio provided a much welcomed respite. The back room at Kelly's stayed fairly packed for most of night, while the main bar was empty until much later. Visible were many glazed expressions, a few perma-grins, and even a few dance floor coital flare-ups. Jillian spent the better part of the evening running her posterior off selling raffle tickets (and stashing the wads of cash in the easiest place she could reach) for the wonderful assortment of gift baskets which she also lovingly assembled. The beer pong tournament proved to be a hit, if only the winners could remember it! And the league's first ever date auction was quite the spectacle. Which brings me back to Jillian for a moment. Will her new "owner" please come forward? Mystery Man has yet to reveal himself and claim his prize. I think it was someone who realized after making the winning bid that he would not be able to keep up with that woman's energy! Congrats to all winning bidders and good luck to all the datees! All in all, I'd say the event was a great success as we raised a nice sum of money for Life Haven as well as a good amount for breast cancer research. As one could imagine, after an evening of this much excess, the much anticipated game between the Inglorious Ones and the Wreckers turned into the Battle of the Hangovers and it ended in a 1-1 tie. See how a few strategically placed cocktails can change the whole scope of the league? If you're the competitive sort, getting your friends on another team a few rounds the night before a big game can be more than just a nice gesture. And the date winners are not the only ones to be congratulated this week. Unless my data is incorrect, it would appear that the Balls of Fury have earned their first victory of the season! Nice job! Maybe we'll start to see the Orange around Anna Liffey's a bit more often? And we're not done yet...a BIG congratulation goes out to Steve Watson (Fever's captain) and Libby Brown (now retired) on their engagement! See, people? Kickball and love go together like ice cream and pretzels! (trust me - try it!) 'Til next time, see you on the playing field!
