Word up from the Captains (captains corner & sunday recap)

Last Week Recap
Hamden Mafia - 3 Balls to the Wall - 2
A close, great, game that displayed lots of great plays; but in the end 1 mistake cost b2w a victory, yet again
Fever - 0 UniBalls - 3
Even though the score says 3-0, this was a total domination by the uniballs. The once heralded Fever drops a 2nd game in a row.
Kickelback – 7 Balls of Fury - 3
The battle of the orange proved to be very exciting. Errors around, big kicks around, but kickel has improved major-ly
Inglorious Ballstards - 3 Blue Ballers - 3
A game that had the eyes of everyone watching ended with the Ballstards fighting back in the later innings to almost pull of the miracle win after a poor game
Balls Deep - 12 Saved by the Balls - 2
Deep returned to their roots by laying the smack down on someone again. Can they do it again though?
Sweep the Leg - 1 Ball Busters - 0
Game of the week panned out to the hype. I don’t remember the last time ball busters were shut out
Wrecking Balls - 10 TeaBaggers - 0
No teabagging going on here; Just pure wrecking domination

*Game of the Week Report*
Sweep the Leg vs. Ball Busters

Who would have thought the game would have ended like that. Not an upset, but a surprise to many but STL.
The game started out with Ball Busters all-pro 3b Gabe Johnson dashing to 2nd unconventionally and being called out with what looked like a pretty safe slide. In the next inning, STL moved the front of their line-up with all 3 kickers getting on base and Kharim Jones kicking in Chad Martin for the 1-0 lead. And from there all that was seen was some pretty incredible defensive on both sides. Gabe doing his impressive thing, Kharim with another lights out pitching performance again, Steve from STL even becoming famous. You saw the speed from the STL outfield in Davon, Brandon and some impressive athleticism from Busters Brad Allard. Not much offense, but a demo tape on how to play correct defense.
Kudos to both teams for a well played game, but unfortunately, someone has to lose

Captains Corner
~True stories told by the captains themselves or team reps~

Kickelback
We had a great time playing our friends Balls of Fury on Sunday, and it's good to know we are kings and queens of the orange! MVP goes to everyone! But especially our handsome catcher Bobby, Dave and all of his sweet catches in the field, and Matty Griz for his sick home run—woa! No matter the outcome of this Sunday's game, Kickelback is proud to end the season with either a tied record or a winning record (!?!))... it's hard to believe we were once the team with only a couple of wins last season. KICK.EL.BACK!

Fever
Partly cloudy, breezy, autumnal nip in the air. It was the perfect day for Kickball. We started the day with a victory at Rock-Paper-Scissors and we opted to kick first. It was a good thing, because we lit up the scoreboard with 7 kicks and 5 runs scored. We could see in the faces of the Uniballs that they were stunned as we took the field. They went up to kick and back to the bench just as quickly...1,2,3. Through the course of the day Melanie made 12 strikeouts. They didn't get close to first base...we barely even let them look at it. They did get a kick in two different innings and this week's MVP, Sarah, made a couple of excellent catches to close out those innings. We scored at least 3 runs per inning while scoring the most in the 5th with a total of 7 runs that inning. Each one of us scored at least once. 22 runs in one game...now that's impressive. They were obviously demoralized and we were all quite proud of ourselves. Or...umm...wait a minute. I must have a Fever or something....we lost 3-0. At least the part about Sarah is right.... damn painkillers....

Sweep the Leg
What am I really supposed to say? We suck remember? No one listened when I said it's a new STL after the midseason break, and our lack of practice and confidence were the only things holding us back. Well now here we are. We might take this week off to rest for the playoffs actually. But I don’t advise that you continue to sleep on us, because we'll continue to humiliate you. Haters you can kiss our whole.... Anyway, we are just here to eat our great food each day, hang out, drink, steal your women, win something having to do with a big red ball, and then start a dance party at the bar. Props to the team tailgates becoming a culinary competition each week. Front runner looks like Javil with back to back phenomenal chicken dishes. Hold your racism please. Hold your everything actually, just take a number, and get in the body bag. All jokes aside, much respect to our opponents this week, even with a depleted roster they still gave a hell of a showing, and we look forward to playing them again when they are at full strength. Hopefully Buster STL II will be another battle of epic proportions, with the drama to match. MVP goes to our rising star Jackie. After 2 seasons of being buried on the depth chart with Balls Deep, she has moved up to near the top of our roster and challenging for most improved player! Her sac bunt set up game winning run this week. Then to show that her commitment to the team is absolute, she sacrificed her play time in the final inning to allow her captain to take the field. Cheers to Jac, our mean lefty and MVP.

Saved by the Balls
SBTB started this one off strong with two back to back singles and two runs scored in the first inning, and then things really fell apart after that. At least SBTB doubled our run total for the year this game!!! A few fumbles in the field led Balls Deep to catch up and then some at the bottom of the first and they never looked back. SBTB’s legs were alive the rest of the game but we left many players stranded on base every inning. This was not a terribly heated game and a few solid plays were made by both sides, though there was some commentary misconstrued as trash talk but that was cleared up by the time we got to the Liff….
Balls Deep was soundly manhandled at the flipcup table by SBTB with a definitive score of 5-1. Yay! SBTB finally beat someone at something at some point in time. It was bound to happen eventually. There goes the perfect season…..

Blue Ballers
I don’t even know how to begin but to say HELL YEAH BLUE BALLERS! This was a tie that no one saw coming…well, I envisioned a win, but a tie is wonderful. BB have been hearing a lot of crap lately about what we “can be” and I think this week, we really showed our potential…with 4 players missing. We are finally coming together as a unit where not a single player is dominating over another…we are finally working together. MVP’s are the whole friggin team. Dave as pitcher was phenomenal; Kim with a great catch, Eddie solid at first, Billy doing his catcher thing, Ed taking over third…our infield flat out dominated this week. And off the field, the cheering we did proves we definitely know that when it comes to kickball, FUN comes first. Where there is fun, wins will come. It probably didn’t help that Ballstards talked too much trash and we had to show them just what we are made of. I can’t wait to see the playoff line up…maybe we will get to play IB again….and with our 4 other players, give them another go ending with 18-2…or according to Kyle, 18-3. =]

Wrecking Balls
The Wrecking Balls haven't had the easiest of schedules as of late, so the prospect of playing the Teabaggers was a welcome relief. We started the game off with a quick run in the first, but the Teabaggers proved to be tougher then their schedule had made it appear, holding us to no runs over the next two innings. Then the sleeping giant was awoken in the 4th inning, with our offense batting around and scoring at will. Before we knew it the game was at 10-0 and the game was over.
Now before you think this game was quick and easy as I made it seem, its not to say that it went without incident. Let's just say some of the (read:one) Teabaggers was less then happy with some of our tactics. I for one could say that I speak for the majority of our team when I say we primarily play kickball for fun, so we don't do things in games to disrespect anyone at all. Yes sometimes games do get heated as we do want to win, but don't assume that we are trying to do anything to piss people off.
The games MVP will go to Ant Fischetti, not only for his dedication to the team for hussling back to New Haven from his military duties, but for playing the game in full combat boots. The LVP would certainly be one Joe Nista, who for whatever reason seems dead set on trying to take out his teammates on collision at a time. Tell next week...keep kicking real!

Inglorious Ballstards
(sigh)
With the Maroon Army missing probably their best player in Catcher Kelly Miller we knew it would be a tough one; but as someone said before “The show must go on”. The Ballstards lined-up determined to get revenge for the spring season but that determination didn’t follow too far into the game. With some many errors; dropping balls, overthrows, even taking a fast ball to the face the Ballstards were down 2-0 quick and down 3-1 after 2 innings. With some minor defensive changes (moving pitcher Kyle to Catcher, and Scott to Pitcher) we got back on track to our normal lock down defensive. Yes, what you hear is true. In the 3rd we intentionally got out for the 3rd out to start at the top of the line-up for the 4th. And with that, we scored the next inning and were close to winning even after playing our worst game of the season. We give a lot of credit to Blue Ballers though; they came out and played real tough. They made a lot of unbelievable, spectacular catches that I can’t remember seeing them make any other time this season. When they play like that, they are capable of beating anyone. BUT; they know they don’t want to see Maroon again. After all the trash talk they talk, deep down….. they don’t want it with us.
MVP’s goes out to Scott for stepping in and performing quite well at pitcher. Also Dom was on monster on offense; And lastly Maggie for her unselfish act in the 3rd inning.
All season this entire team has been unselfish and willing to “run through walls” for the Maroon. But with all this Hate you all send, a fire burns and the Maroon Army is pissed! I received a message Monday saying congrads on the season success so far but “watch your back” O yea? ok- Thank You… A Monster has awoken again
FEAR THE MAROON!!!
